If you're living overseas, you can apply for your British passport at most British Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions. If you have lost your passport or it's been stolen, please go to our Lost and Stolen page.
Please note that our Embassy in Tashkent acts as a spoke post with regards to issuing passports. This service will involve sending all passport applications to the British Embassy in Moscow, Russia.
You can continue to lodge passport applications and fees at the British Embassy, Tashkent; and we will continue to carry out all administration and security checks here before sending the passport applications to the British Embassy in Moscow for issuing.
We advise British Citizens to apply at least six months before their passports are due to expire. You will be allowed to hold on to your expiring passports until the replacements arrive and you receive your new passport from our Embassy in Tashkent.
The British Embassy, Tashkent will send your application via the official diplomatic bag; it will take approximately 5-6 weeks for passports to be returned. There will be no additional charge for applications sent via this method.
First time passport applications must be supported with original and full birth, marriage and where applicable, divorce certificates. Abbreviated or photocopied documents will not be accepted. You will also need to submit 2 recent passport sized photographs. For those who have acquired British nationality through a registration or naturalisation process, the relevant original Home Office registration document is needed.
Exceptionally, if during the processing time, you have an urgent unforeseen need to travel and your passport has expired, our Embassy can issue an emergency passport. The emergency passport allows a single journey back to the UK or a British Overseas Territory, or some other part of the Commonwealth by prior arrangement. They will not be issued showing a foreign country as the final destination. Emergency passports will incur a separate fee.
If you are currently in possession of a non machine-readable passport, you can continue to use this passport and it will remain valid until the expiry date. However, United States authorities have decided that from 26 October 2004 they will no longer accept non-machine readable passports under their Visa Waiver Scheme. British nationals who do not hold a machine-readable passport and who wish to enter or transit the United States after 26 October 2004 will be required to hold a valid United States Visa.
