British Ambassador Rupert Joy presents his credentials to Islam Karimov, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (06/08/2009)
The British Ambassador Rupert Joy presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on 5 August 2009 in Tashkent.
After presenting his credentials, Rupert Joy said: " I feel very fortunate and privileged to be appointed Ambassador to Uzbekistan, with its extraordinarily rich historical and cultural legacy. We in Western Europe owe much to the remarkable civilisations that flourished in "Maveraunahr", at the commercial and intellectual crossroads of East and West. Many centuries later, Uzbekistan again has a major role to play as a lynchpin between East and West. As UK Ambassador to Uzbekistan, I intend to do everything in my power to help create conditions for the further development of Uzbek-British links and the deepening of friendly relations between our peoples".
